Bible in a Year: Job 31-32; Acts 19

"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4

Today's Scripture & Insight: Ephesians 6:1-4

As the father of two energetic boys, Tim often found parenting a challenging task. Balancing discipline and love, teaching right from wrong, fostering independence while setting boundaries—it all seemed overwhelming at times. One Sunday, during their pastor’s message on parenting, Ephesians 6:4 caught his attention, "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

Paul's words in this verse provide profound guidance for parents. He encourages us not to provoke our children to anger but to raise them with discipline and instruction rooted in God's word. This implies setting boundaries and standards but doing it in a way that points children toward the love of God and His principles.

Parenting isn't just about making sure kids follow rules. It's about nurturing them in God's love, guiding them toward His truth, and helping them grow into their God-given potential. It's about reflecting God's love and patience toward us, His children.

The task may seem daunting, but remember, we’re not alone in this parenting journey. God, our Heavenly Father, walks with us, supplying wisdom and grace in each step.

Are you, like Tim, finding parenting challenging? Seek wisdom from God's Word. Remember, He is with you, equipping you to raise your children in His ways.

Reflect & Pray

How can you bring up your children in the training and instruction of the Lord? Where do you need God's wisdom and guidance in your parenting journey?

Lord, thank You for entrusting us with the responsibility of parenting. Give us wisdom and love to raise our children in Your ways. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
