Bible in a Year: Nehemiah 12–13; John 20

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." — Hebrews 12:1

Today's Scripture & Insight: Hebrews 12:1-3

Our journey through life can often feel like a long-distance race. There are times of great progress, times of stumbling, and times of feeling out of breath. Yet, as the writer of Hebrews reminds us, we're not running this race alone.

The "great cloud of witnesses" refers to the faithful men and women of the past who have finished their own races. Their stories inspire us, reminding us that faith is a marathon, not a sprint. And just as a runner prepares for a race by casting off unnecessary weight, we too, should remove anything that hinders our progress—especially the sins that so easily entangle us.

But how do we run this race with perseverance? We look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. His life serves as the ultimate example of steadfast faith and endurance. He faced unimaginable suffering yet remained committed to God's will.

Our race may not always be easy. We may face trials and hardships, but we are encouraged to press on, remembering those who have run before us and looking to Jesus, our ultimate example and source of strength.

Reflect & Pray

What is hindering your race of faith today? How can you look to Jesus for strength and perseverance?

Lord, help us to run our race with endurance, casting off the sins that hinder us. May we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, finding strength and inspiration in His perfect example. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
