Hand on light switch in the dark

Bible in a Year: Psalm 16-18; Romans 2

"Do not quench the Spirit." — 1 Thessalonians 5:19

Today's Scripture & Insight: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22

During a strong storm, we lost electricity at our house. The lights went out. A little while later, I went into the next room and flipped the light switch without thinking. Nothing happened. I was cut off from the source of power. I felt a little silly, but I couldn't help but see that what had just happened had a spiritual connection.

Just like the electrical power that runs our homes, the Holy Spirit is our spiritual power source. Our spiritual lights shine brightly when we stay connected to Him. But when we drift away—when we stop listening to the Spirit because of doubt, disobedience, or other things—we end up in the dark, trying to turn on a light that doesn't work.

"Do not quench the Spirit," it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:19. This Bible verse urges us to stay connected to our divine power source and let the Holy Spirit guide our actions, help us understand things, and sustain our spiritual vitality.

Just as I was reminded, it's important to stay connected to our power source, especially when storms come up in life. Do you feel like you've lost touch with God? Reach out to Him in prayer, ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, and let His divine light shine on your path again.

Reflect & Pray

How are you nurturing your connection with the Holy Spirit? What steps can you take today to ensure you are drawing power from this divine source?

Dear Lord, help us to stay connected to our divine power source, the Holy Spirit. Keep us from quenching the Spirit and guide us to continually seek Your wisdom, strength, and illumination. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
