At Home with Jesus
Bible in a Year: Job 1-2; Acts 4
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." — John 15:4
Today's Scripture & Insight: John 15:1-5
A few years ago, a scraggly-looking cat showed up at our door. Skinny and somewhat bedraggled, he meowed plaintively. With a bit of trepidation, we fed him, gave him some water, and before long, he had made himself comfortable on our front porch. We never knew where he had come from or why he chose our home, but he decided we were his people, and our house was his home.
Like that cat, we often find ourselves in places where we feel lost, unknown, and unloved. Yet, in those moments, Jesus invites us to find our home in Him. He asks us to abide in Him, to make our home with Him, much like a branch is connected to the vine.
The word "abide" implies remaining constant, regardless of circumstances. It involves trust, rest, and an intimate relationship. When we abide in Jesus, we draw our sustenance, our life, from Him. He becomes our source of strength and growth. And from that connection, we bear fruit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
The cat who showed up at our door made his home with us, not because of what we could do for him, but because he felt safe, loved, and cared for. Jesus invites us to do the same — to find our home in Him, not because of what He can do for us, but because in Him, we are known, loved, and cared for.
Reflect & Pray
How can you deepen your abiding relationship with Jesus today? How does it feel to be at home with Him?
Lord, thank You for inviting us to make our home with You. Help us to abide in You, finding comfort, love, and peace in Your presence. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
