Strength in Weakness
Bible in a Year: Job 9-10; Acts 8
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." — 2 Corinthians 12:9
Today's Scripture & Insight: Judges 6:11-16
When Gideon was called by God to save Israel from the Midianites, he was threshing wheat in a winepress—hiding in fear of his enemies. An unlikely hero, Gideon was the weakest member of his family, which was the least significant in their tribe. He asked the angel of the Lord, "How can I save Israel?" God's answer was simple yet profound: "I will be with you."
God's call didn't depend on Gideon's abilities or strengths but on His divine power. Gideon's story is a testament that God often uses the weak to confound the strong. It's about strength in weakness, a truth echoed in 2 Corinthians, where the apostle Paul reminds us that God's grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in our weakness.
Perhaps you identify with Gideon, feeling small and weak in the face of a difficult challenge. Maybe you feel incapable or unworthy to carry out God's purpose. If so, remember God's promise to Gideon—and to each of us. His power is made perfect in our weakness. He doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called.
When we feel weak, insufficient, or afraid, we can rely on God's strength, which is greater than any difficulty we face. Our weakness is an opportunity for God's power to shine, transforming our fears into faith and our trials into triumphs.
Reflect & Pray
Where do you feel weak today? How can you lean on God's strength in those areas?
Lord, thank You for reminding us that Your power is made perfect in our weakness. Help us to lean on You when we feel weak and give us the faith to trust in Your strength. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
